How long do dental implants last?
The dental implant inserted into the jawbone should last indefinitely, as long as certain conditions are met. These conditions include:
- optimum implant and teeth placement,
- good medical health,
- proper observation of diet and good hygiene practices.
However, the crown or other restorative dental work placed on top of the implant will need replacing around every 10 to 15 years due to wear and tear. Design plays a large role in influencing the life span of an implant supported restoration and poor design may lead to premature failure of either the implants or the restoration.
