How often should I see the dentist?
You should plan to see a dentist at least once a year.
With good oral hygiene you will not develop tooth decay or gum disease. Both these conditions take about 18-24 months to develop. In some patients this may occur much more rapidly. If you have medical problems or a history of frequent tooth decay, more regular checkups are recommended.
As a general rule you should see a dentist at least once a year. If you have your teeth professionally cleaned by a hygienist on a regular basis it may be possible to extend the time before seeing your dentist for a checkup. Seeing a hygienist twice a year for thorough cleans may prevent dental problems and your dentist could check over your teeth at these clean visits without the need for another separate appointment.
